Canada Lynx Protection Zone for Trapping Restrictions

Lynx in the woodsSpecial trapping regulations are in place for the northern half of New Hampshire to mitigate possible impacts on lynx, which have been documented as a breeding presence in the northern part of NH and are federally listed as a threatened species. These rules help safeguard lynx, while simultaneously facilitating continued trapping of fisher and other legally trapped species.

In the lynx protection zone, traps may only be placed in locations or circumstances where the potential for lynx to access them is significantly reduced, if not eliminated. Mid-size body-gripping traps are only legal if set off the ground or when set within a lynx exclusion device (a special box designed to preempt lynx access). Other requirements and restrictions in the lynx zone are outlined in the current NH Hunting and Trapping Digest.
